12V DC Gear Motor For Medical, Robotics, Instrumentation And Battery-Powered Tools.
"12V DC gear motor" covers two distinct product families: brushless (BLDC) gear motors with permanent-magnet rotors and electronic commutation, and brushed DC gear motors with traditional carbon-brush commutation. Shenghe's primary product line is the brushless variant — higher efficiency (85–92%), longer life (10,000+ hours vs 1,000–3,000), and quieter operation than brushed. We supply both variants at 12V across 42mm and 57mm frame sizes, with planetary, worm or spur gearbox in 5:1 to 100:1 ratios.
Which 12V DC Gear Motor Variant Should You Use?
"DC gear motor" is the umbrella term — the motor inside can be brushless or brushed. Both run on the same 12V supply, both come with the same gearbox options, but they perform differently across life, noise and total cost.
Rule of thumb: if the product runs >1,000 hours/year or needs medical / IEC 60601 certification, brushless wins. Otherwise brushed is fine.
Where 12V DC Gear Motors Are Used
- Medical equipment (infusion pumps, syringe drives, patient lifts, ventilator components) — brushless required for IEC 60601 EMC compliance
- Lab and instrumentation (pipetting robots, sample positioners, optical stage drives) — brushless for low-noise, accurate positioning
- Robotics (small mobile robots, gripper actuators, robotic toy drives) — brushless for closed-loop speed/position
- Automotive accessories (electric mirror motors, seat actuators, sunroof drives, window regulators) — brushed acceptable due to short cycle time
- Battery-powered tools (cordless drills, screwdrivers, valve actuators) — brushless preferred for run-time
- Garden equipment (12V battery sprayers, irrigation timers, small actuators) — either variant depending on duty
- Smart home / appliance (motorized blinds, vending machine drives, locker mechanisms) — brushless for silent operation
