BLDC Motor FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions.
The 12 questions buyers and engineers ask most often before a BLDC motor order. For sizing help send the four-number spec — voltage, continuous power, output speed, torque — to the inline quote above.
What is a BLDC motor?
A brushless DC motor — permanent-magnet rotor, three-phase stator, electronic commutation by an external controller. Higher efficiency and longer life than brushed DC by removing the mechanical commutator.
What voltages are available?
DC 12V, 24V, 36V, 48V, 60V, 72V, 110V and 220V as standard. Custom voltages available on ODM projects.
What power range does Shenghe cover?
30W to 5000W in stock frames. Custom builds up to 10kW. Frame sizes 42mm to 130mm.
BLDC vs brushed DC — which to choose?
Choose BLDC for any continuous-duty application, anything above 100W, anything where brush dust is unacceptable, or where service life above 5,000 hours matters. Brushed DC stays cheaper only for very-low-volume or low-cost consumer products.
BLDC vs PMSM?
BLDC: trapezoidal back-EMF, 6-step commutation, cheaper controller, slight low-speed cogging. PMSM: sinusoidal back-EMF, FOC commutation, smoother low-speed torque, higher controller cost. Robotics and medical typically choose PMSM-style.
Does the motor come with a controller?
Yes — every motor pairs with a validated BLD-series (6-step) or BLDB-series (FOC) controller matched to its voltage and Hall feedback.
Are encoders available?
Optional incremental encoder (1024–2500 PPR) for closed-loop speed/position. Optional 17-bit absolute encoder for robotics and any application needing position recovery on power-up.
What about a holding brake?
Electromagnetic brake available on all frames 80mm and above. Required for AGV / EV / lifting applications that must hold position when de-energised. Adds 20–40mm to motor length.
What is the MOQ?
1 piece for sample, 10 pieces for commercial first order on stock SKUs. 50–100 pieces for OEM-branded runs. ODM with new tooling quoted per project.
What is the lead time?
Sample 7–10 days, production 2–3 weeks for stock SKUs. Add 1–2 weeks for shaft / housing changes, 4–8 weeks for new tooling.
Can I get OEM branding?
Yes. Customer label, custom paint, custom packaging — handled in-house. NDA available before quote.
What information should I send for a quote?
Voltage, continuous power, output speed (RPM), torque (Nm), application, target unit volume. Add duty cycle, ambient temperature, IP rating and encoder/brake need for a more accurate match. Quote returns inside 24 hours.
